    Field Trip
I never actually thought about where people live. The neighborhood trip helped me put in perspective the surrounding environment of the patients - first year resident, 8/8/01

    About Our Program

The Pediatric Department of the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse has developed an innovative program that advocates for children in our community and teaches advocacy skills to pediatric residents. The program includes an introduction to the community and its resources, optional individualized case advocacy projects and mentoring by faculty members.

    Goals:

    • Provide the opportunity for residents to learn advocacy skills they can apply during their residency and use in future years
    • Provide residents with advocacy experiences without interfering with other important residency experiences
    • Develop a community-based method of learning advocacy skills
    • Develop residents' communication skills

Program curriculum complies with current ACGME requirements.
